Hemorrhage into pituitary adenomas.
The clinical and pathologic features of pituitary apoplexy were evaluated within the last 100 consecutive pituitary tumors surgically treated at this institution. From this group, ten tumor specimens exhibited pathologically verifiable hemorrhagic necrosis, including six with classic apoplectic onset; the hemorrhage in four patients was asymmetric. The tumors of symptomatic patients were large,...
متن کاملIncrease in folate receptor alpha expression in nonfunctional pituitary adenomas.
AIM Human pituitary adenomas account for 10% of intracranial tumours and occur in about 20% of the population. They cause hypopituitarism or the compression of adjacent regional structures. However, little is known about the molecular pathogenesis that contributes to the development of these tumours. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this study, we investigated the relationship between the expression l...
متن کاملPituitary apoplexy and haemorrhage into adenomas.
A review of 78 cases of surgically managed pituitary adenomas revealed that haemorrhage had occurred in 13. Frank haemorrhage or haemorrhagic infarction caused increasing headache, drowsiness, diplopia and visual failure. The correct diagnosis was suggested by skull X-rays and contrast studies leading to prompt surgical decompression.
متن کاملIn vivo assay of folate receptors in nonfunctional pituitary adenomas with 99mTc-folate SPECT/CT.
UNLABELLED The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vivo assay of folate receptors in nonfunctional pituitary adenomas using preoperative (99m)Tc-folate SPECT/CT and Western blot analysis (WBA) of surgical specimens as the standard. METHODS Fifty-six patients (29 men, 27 women; age range, 29-82 y) with clinically nonfunctional pituitary adenomas on MRI underwent preoperative imaging...
متن کاملGene Expression Profiling and Proteomic Analyses Clinically Nonfunctional Pituitary Adenomas Identified by Novel Molecular Signaling and Classification of Human
Pituitary adenomas comprise 10% of intracranial tumors and occur in about 20% of the population. They cause significant morbidity by compression of regional structures or the inappropriate expression of pituitary hormones. Their molecular pathogenesis is unclear, and the current classification of clinically nonfunctional tumors does not reflect any molecular distinctions between the subtypes. T...
